Donation of playing equipment to a worthy cause.
Somerset West, Cape Town: On Thursday, 03 May 2018, Sonja Fitzell and Piet Moolman in collaboration with Radio Helderberg 93.6FM donated playground equipment to Tereo Community School. This event derives from Radio Helderberg’s Easter Drive, where the station collaborated with some of its clients and donated Easter eggs, hot cross buns, marsh mallows and educational writing material towards 84 children at Tereo Community School. Sonja, who is one of Radio Helderberg’s loyal listeners, saw the station’s social media posts about the drive and decided to donate her grandchildren’s playing equipment to the school.
“Our grandchildren have grown up and my husband and I have decided to donate their playing equipment towards a worthy cause. We prayed about this and hope the children who will play with this equipment will be blessed. When we noted that Radio Helderberg supports Tereo Community School and realised the history behind the school, we decided that this was where we were going to take the playground equipment to”- says Sonja.
Tereo Community School is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to offer children at risk an opportunity to learn in a place of safety. They also provide daily meals, clothing and emotional support. This school provides its services to children who come from dire circumstances.
Radio Helderberg is always excited to take part in community initiatives and uniting with local people in giving value to our society. Eddie Goldberg who is Radio Helderberg’s station manager added by saying, “We are a community radio station and our main purpose is to serve and be there for our community, therefore it gives us great pleasure to be part of this event”.
